Votes at a glance: commissioners approve county manager contract, university well agreement, extension service and small tourism grant

At their meeting, Roosevelt County commissioners approved several routine items including the county manager contract, a university well use agreement, an extension service contract and a small tourism grant.

The board voted to approve the county manager contract (a motion made with amendments). The motion passed and the board authorized Mr. Patterson to begin work as county manager. A commissioner moved the approval with amendments and a staff member seconded; the roll call recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried.

Commissioners also approved a renewal agreement allowing Eastern New Mexico University continued use of a county water well for an initial five‑year term with a five‑year renewal option (total possible term of 10 years). Ms. Weems, the presenter, said nothing in the agreement changed except the term; a commissioner moved to approve and the motion carried.

The board approved the annual Cooperative Extension Services agreement with New Mexico State University; Ms. Weems said the dollar amount for this year decreased from the prior year. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the renewal.

Finally, the board accepted a Clean and Beautiful Grant from the New Mexico Tourism Department. Ms. Weems said the county applied for $33,000 but was awarded a smaller amount and corrected the record to say the award is $3,600; commissioners approved accepting the grant, which Ms. Weems said would be used for recycled benches and exterior trash receptacles on the east side of the building.

The board’s approvals were recorded as carried; staff will execute the agreements and follow up on next steps where necessary.
