The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners unanimously approved a proposal March 2 to obtain cellular service from Verizon Wireless for town operations and the Bel Air Police Department.
Commissioner Taylor moved the contract authorization to cover up to 130 cellular units for town and police needs. The motion text recorded in the meeting states funds authorized "not to exceed $75,383.10." Town staff explained the procurement was made using the General Services Administration federal supply schedule awarded to Verizon and noted the town currently has multiple active lines across departments and that the authorization would allow additional lines as needed.
"The town of Bel Air currently has 37 active lines of service under the town account... and 77 active lines of service listed under the Bel Air Police Department," Mr. Krantz told the board while summarizing the request and the procurement vehicle.
The board voted unanimously to approve the proposal. The staff presentation in the record contained a slightly different total when summarizing final numbers; the minutes should be checked for the official contract award amount and procurement paperwork will be attached to the executed contract.
What’s next: Staff will finalize the Verizon contract under the GSA schedule and update the town’s inventory of lines; procurement records will show the final authorized not-to-exceed amount.
