The Orange County Board of Supervisors recognized Probation Services Week on July 23, thanking probation officers for work that links justice-involved people back to stable housing, employment and services.
Vice Chair Chaffee and Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento invited Chief Probation Officer Daniel Hernandez and his team to the dais. Hernandez described probation work as a blend of enforcement, mentorship and reentry services; he cited recent enforcement numbers and wellness programs to support staff. "We seized 55 firearms this last year. We also seized 438 other weapons off the streets," Hernandez said, and described peer support and mentorship programs the department uses to support staff and improve outcomes.
Supervisors framed the recognition as part of the county's broader OC CARES initiative to reform criminal justice and support reentry. The board presented a signed proclamation and took a group photograph with the probation team.
