The Carlsbad City Council adjourned to closed session to confer with labor negotiators over contracts with the Carlsbad Firefighters Association and the Carlsbad City Employees Association, the city attorney said.
"At this time, we will be adjourning the closed session in accordance with the Brown Act and Government Code section 54957.6," the city attorney said, identifying the legal basis for the confidential meeting. The council had completed roll call and recorded all five members as present.
The city attorney named the officials who will represent the city in the closed session: Sheila Cobian, Assistant City Manager; Laura Boccia, Deputy City Manager of Administrative Services; Jennifer True, Senior Assistant City Attorney; Zach Korach, Finance Director; Darren Schwab, Human Resources Director; Mike Calderwood, Fire Chief; and Tim Davis of Burke Williams & Sorensen. The attorney also said the council will reconvene in open session to report any actions taken, as required by law.
No votes or motions were recorded in the open session transcript. The meeting moved immediately into the closed session to begin confidential labor negotiations on the two bargaining units listed; the council said it will report back publicly on any formal actions after reconvening.
