Committee approves routine update to King County voting precinct boundaries for 2026

The Government Accountability and Oversight Committee voted to forward to the full council an administrative ordinance that adopts boundary revisions to King County's voting precincts for 2026.
Sherry Sue of council staff said the yearly update revises boundaries to comply with state law and county code, which set protocols and a maximum active-voter count per precinct. Sue told the committee the ordinance was transmitted to the council on Jan. 28 to meet transmittal deadlines and that the county's elections office provided the required public review period to the two major political parties; no comments were received during that review.
Kendall Hodgson, chief of staff for King County Elections, said the change is routine and thanked the committee for acting quickly given a narrow implementation window. Hodgson projected roughly 32% turnout for a typical February election and reminded voters ballots may be returned to drop boxes until 8 p.m. on election day.
