Belmont hires Raleigh-based Pine State Strategies as lobbyist; contract authorized

The council authorized the city manager to enter into a lobbying contract with Pine State Strategies, represented by Nathan Lewis, at $2,500 per month (the same monthly rate the city previously paid another firm). Miles said the city received references and that Representative Loftus and Overcash recommended Lewis.
Nathan Lewis introduced himself and described experience in state appropriations and municipal advocacy. Council members asked about his legislative relationships, initial workplan for upcoming budget conversations in Raleigh, and contract term; staff said an initial term would run from March through June 30, with renewal to be considered in the annual budget process.
Council authorized the city manager to finalize contract terms with the firm and directed staff and the mayor to work with Lewis to prioritize Belmont’s top projects for initial outreach in April.
