Organizers told the Parks and Community Enrichment Commission that the annual youth resource and employment fair will take place Saturday, March 7 at New City Hall and will use on-site-only registration to improve turnout and flow.
"We have our annual youth resource and employment fair... from 9:30AM to 12 noon," said Chris Wimberley, who described more than 30 community-based organizations, nonprofits and city units planning to attend. He said on-site registration will open at 9:15 and on-site registration concludes at 11:15.
Wimberley described features intended to help young jobseekers: a second-floor area offering professional headshots, a fashion gallery to demonstrate budget-conscious interview attire, help creating government jobs accounts, and employer tables. He said the event has drawn hundreds in prior years (more than 800 youth registered last year) and that organizers will use wristbands and controlled entry to avoid past crowding problems.
Commissioners asked about venue choice and logistics; Wimberley said New City Hall is centrally located with transit access and that organizers will limit capacity, require wristbands, and stop reentry to control flow.
What’s next: Staff will set up the event on March 6–7 and monitor on-site capacity; commissioners encouraged outreach to maximize equitable access for youth across districts.
