Commission backs Skyline Commons final plat after staff notes ITD coordination on accesses

The Idaho Falls Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval on March 3 of the Skyline Commons final plat, a multi-block commercial plat on the city’s west side intended to consolidate fragmented lots and reduce curb cuts.
An applicant representative from Connect Engineering described plans for two private internal access points and cross-access easements that will provide circulation similar to an internal mall-style arrangement. City staff said the plat cleans up prior fragmented plats and rights-of-way, that Broadway is a state-owned (ITD) arterial and that ITD had reviewed and approved the proposed accesses, and that staff recommends approval to city council.
Commissioners emphasized pedestrian and traffic-safety benefits of removing multiple access points at an intersection and discussed cross-referencing the subdivision ordinance and site-development code to make treatment of cross-access easements clearer. Several commissioners said the area’s walkability and existing unsafe conditions made redevelopment desirable.
A motion to recommend approval was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote; staff will forward the recommendation to the mayor and city council.
