City staff told the Katy City Council Feb. 23 that the city will participate in the 2026 Great Texas Warrant Roundup and will offer two safe‑harbor court dates for Katy Municipal Court, Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26, with sessions scheduled 8:00–10:00 a.m. and 4:30–6:30 p.m.
The court’s presenter, identified in the meeting as Fabiola, said the program is intended to let residents come in to resolve warrants and related cases “without the fear of being arrested,” and described outreach plans that include text messages, letters from the collection agency Lineberger, physical signage and social‑media posts coordinated with the police department.
Fabiola provided case‑management figures for context: staff said the court currently clears about 80–150 warrants a month while issuing about 150–200 a month, leaving a backlog the presenter described as “over 16,000 warrants.” The presenter also gave an outstanding monetary figure of $7,500,000 for related fines and fees as part of that caseload.
No council vote was required for the presentation. Council members asked about outreach and expressed support for the effort; staff said they hope residents will take advantage of the safe‑harbor dates to resolve outstanding issues.
The presentation did not detail eligibility criteria or specific case types included; residents planning to attend were not given additional procedural detail on the record beyond the dates, times and outreach methods.
