Katy council proclaims tribute to Coach Mike Johnston

The proclamation, read from the dais, credited Johnston with 200 victories, 13 district championships, five state championship game appearances and three Texas state football championships, and noted that Katy ISD named Mike Johnston Field at Legacy Stadium in his honor in 2017. It also praised his work instilling discipline, teamwork and accountability in student athletes.
Mayor Theel invited Johnston’s family and former players to join the council for photos following the reading. Council members on the dais and members of the public offered brief remarks acknowledging Johnston’s influence on athletes and the broader community.
The proclamation does not create any city program or appropriation; it is a formal recognition of Johnston’s contributions. The council recessed the proclamation to allow photos with the honoree’s family.
