Flower Mound honors three outstanding citizens, including longtime historical-commission chair

The Town of Flower Mound presented its 2025 Outstanding Citizen Awards to three honorees during the council meeting: Jackie Norell won the individual adult award, Vyom Sharma took the youth category and the Flower Mound Hospital Auxiliary received the group award.
Scott Morgan, who represented the citizen selection committee, described the award as a way for the town to "recognize residents and groups who have unselfishly given of their time, their energy, their efforts, and their talents to meaningfully improve the quality of life for Flower Mound residents." He said winners receive a wall plaque at Town Hall, an engraved keepsake, a community spotlight on the town website and access to local facilities such as the CAC.
Jackie Norell, introduced by the committee as the individual winner, accepted the honor at the meeting and thanked commission colleagues and family members who were present. "I'm absolutely floored," Norell said, calling her work with the Flower Mound Historical Commission and the Gibson Grant Log Cabin among the efforts she values most.
The youth award went to Vyom Sharma, a Flower Mound High School senior. The committee highlighted Sharma's volunteer work in the Lions Club "plastic bags to benches" recycling program, his research and presentations on microplastics and molecular biology, and his role on the school robotics team that qualified for the 2025 world championship.
The Flower Mound Hospital Auxiliary was recognized for its volunteer work at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound, where members staff front desks and the gift shop and channel proceeds into scholarships for local graduates and hospital employees pursuing higher education.
The mayor and council encouraged residents to nominate candidates for next year's awards and noted nominations may also highlight groups and lifetime contributions. The recognition segment concluded before the public-comment portion of the meeting.
