The Brookhaven City Council voted Feb. 24 to award a $1,154,125.22 paving contract to Blunt Construction Inc. for LMEIG‑funded work on seven road segments.
Tom, the city’s public‑works presenter, described the work as full‑depth reclamation — milling the pavement surface, mixing existing asphalt with Portland cement to recreate a sound road base, and repaving. He listed the work locations, including Chaucer, the Sunderland Way horseshoe, Garden, Beach Haven and Apple Valley between Dresden and North Druid Hills Road.
When a council member asked why the contract identifies the funding year as 2024–2025 even though paving will occur in 2026, Tom explained that the dates reflect the LMEIG funding year source. City staff reiterated that the paving is funded by a state grant (LMEIG), emphasizing the project uses “other people’s money” rather than local general fund dollars.
Council Member Jennifer Owens moved to approve the contract award; the motion was seconded and the council approved the contract on a voice vote with no opposition.
Staff said the award will enable much‑needed pavement restoration in neighborhoods, and Apple Valley — specifically named by staff and council — is among the streets scheduled for work.
