Brookhaven updates paving, multiuse path and demolition schedules

Tom (Public Works) and Greg (Facilities) briefed the council on multiple infrastructure initiatives. Tom said the agenda includes consideration of awarding the 2024-25 LMIC paving project to a contractor and that the Lake Kern sidepath and CDBG ADA ramp and sidewalk ITBs will be issued this week. He also said the North Druid Hills multiuse path (from Sylvan Circle to Apple Valley, continuing toward Briarwood Road and the Greenway) is in right-of-way acquisition and coordination with DeKalb County for library property appraisal is underway.

Greg reported that Morrison Farms demolition is moving forward: the city has approved a purchase order and selected a vendor and is finalizing permits so demolition can begin. Councilmember Madeline Simmons asked about rodent-control measures noted in the weekly report; Greg said a rodent-control letter from a licensed company is a permit requirement and that his walkthroughs showed no visible rodent signs, with an official report to accompany the permit application.

Tom clarified that the North Druid Hills Streetscape project is a separate, larger design effort (Beaufort Highway to Goodwin Road) currently nearing final design but lacks funding to move into construction. He said the crosswalk at Apple Valley is priced and that installation timing depends largely on lead times for parts; he will follow up with traffic engineers and maintenance staff to provide a timeline.

Next steps: staff will bring paving award recommendations to the regular agenda, finalize demolition permits for Morrison Farms (including the required rodent-control documentation), and report back on crosswalk lead times and scheduling for multiuse-path work.
