Brentwood approves design contract for Old Smyrna Road Phase 1, aims to preserve historic corridor

The Brentwood Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement with Sullivan Engineering for full design services for Old Smyrna Road Phase 1.
City Manager Gage said the chosen design ("option A") provides a new parallel roadway to carry vehicle traffic while preserving the historic Old Smyrna Road as a recreation corridor that retains the rock wall and tree canopy. He reported the option received 84% support in the public vote used during the planning process. The design scope will include engineering and detailed design; the city will handle right-of-way acquisition internally, which Gage said will include a very small private cemetery that the city plans to preserve and maintain through legal protections.
Gage gave the contract amount for full design services as $694,616 and said the project is listed in the Capital Improvements Plan for 2025–2029 with a targeted bid date in May 2027 for construction procurement. The commission approved the contract unanimously.
