Parks staff report on renovation projects, maintenance and upcoming community events

Summary
Staff reported City Council approved a Chandler soccer field renovation, Harry Myers splash pad demo has started (opening may be delayed by concrete cure time), Stone Creek park improvements are in use, and staff outlined docks repairs, playground completions and upcoming events including an Easter egg hunt and Spring Extravaganza.
Parks and Recreation staff provided updates on active projects, maintenance and upcoming events across Rockwall’s park system.
Staff said City Council approved the Chandler Soccer Field renovation; the work includes 70,000 square feet of removal, laser grading, soil amendments and installation of TifTough turf and new goals. Staff also reported the Harry Myers splash pad demolition began last week; contractors are progressing but staff cautioned the splash pad may not be ready by Founders Day because poured concrete requires a roughly 30‑day cure period before coatings and water systems can be installed.
Stone Creek Park has a new fishing pier and trail system that staff said is heavily used, and Harbor dock repairs will be presented to Council (scheduled for the 16th) with a proposal that includes a wave attenuator to protect docks. Fox Chase playground is complete.
Staff also described routine maintenance work (mulching recycled Christmas trees, erosion repairs, cemetery upkeep), pest‑management timing for fire ants (spring and fall baiting plus individual mound treatments), and community programming: a Snap Easter egg hunt is scheduled for March 25 at Yellowjacket Park, Spring Extravaganza on March 28 at the harbor, and a Homeowner’s Guide to Landscaping event is planned with staff presentations and follow‑up classes in April.
Staff said some harbor concession proposals have been denied by Council (an applicant to operate rental jet skis must wait one year before reapplying).
