Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Commission adopts 2026 meeting calendar and work plan

The Parks and Recreation Commission voted Nov. 17 to adopt its proposed 2026 meeting calendar and to accept the commission’s 2026 work plan for referral to the City Council.
Calendar: Recreation Services Manager Ashley Benson summarized the proposed schedule—monthly meetings at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday (except January and February on the second Monday to avoid holidays) with July and December recesses—and recommended adoption. A motion to adopt the calendar was made on the dais and seconded; no objection was recorded.
Work plan: Benson reviewed the work plan’s mission statement, composition, short-term (0–3 years) and mid-term (4–7 years) goals and associated tasks. Benson cited Carlsbad Municipal Code section 2.15.0.02 c as background for the annual work-plan requirement. Chair Winston moved that the commission accept the work plan and recommend its approval by City Council; Commissioner Sander seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Next steps: staff said the work-plan item and 2025 accomplishments will be presented to City Council in January (target Jan. 13, 2026; may move to Jan. 27 if docket is full), and requested either the chair or vice chair to attend and speak in support.
