Carlsbad Library reports one-time donations and Gammon Trust support for homebound services

McCool said the department received contributions from 16 donors totaling over $66,800 during the reporting period. Some donors specified how funds should be used (for books, materials and genealogical subscriptions), while other donations were unspecified and used for items such as step stools and portable Bluetooth speakers to support children’s programming and outreach.
McCool highlighted a second one-time distribution from the Joyce Gammon Trust (a long-standing benefactor for homebound services). She said the Gammon Trust has provided nearly $450,000 to the homebound program over time and that a $60,000 gift arrived in December, creating a visible spike in donations for the reporting period.
Annual donations from support organizations reported for the fiscal year included roughly $100,000 from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library, about $195,000 from the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation, and $25,000 from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts. McCool said donations above $5,000 require City Council acceptance under Carlsbad Municipal Code (2.08.100) and that smaller gifts are accepted by delegation to the city manager.
Trustees asked follow-up questions about the Gammon gifts; McCool confirmed the multi-year support and described planned uses to enhance the homebound program.
