Brentwood officials used the Nov. 24 City Commission meeting to highlight a string of community events and seasonal operations, including a Dec. 13 grand opening for Windy Hill Park, library holiday programming and temporary playground closures for remulching.
City Manager (unnamed) said city hall will be closed for Thanksgiving and the library will close at 6 p.m. on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and remain closed on Thursday and Friday; library Polar Express story times are scheduled at 3:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. The manager promoted the Dec. 1 "Merry and Bright" tree‑lighting ceremony on the library front lawn at 5:30 p.m., noting the Brentwood Academy Singers will perform and Friends of the Brentwood Library will provide free hot chocolate. The manager also announced the Brentwood Fire and Rescue Department is collecting new, unwrapped toys for GraceWorks Ministries through Dec. 5 at city‑owned buildings and fire stations between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Commissioner Donahue described planned renovations to the library’s teen space (work to begin early in 2026) and noted one study room currently lacks full heat while parts are awaited. Commissioner Garris confirmed a Windy Hill Park grand opening on Dec. 13 (times announced in commissioner remarks), encouraged appropriate footwear for attendees and said the park includes a 400‑meter loop plus longer trails; commissioners praised the park’s progress and noted playground installations are largely complete.
Commissioner Pippen previewed Arbor Day plans (March 26 at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library, 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), said the tree board ordered 2,000 saplings and expects an additional 200 free saplings for 2,200 total, and described related contests and volunteer opportunities.
The meeting also included a Veterans Committee update from Vice Mayor Little, who said the committee has worked with architect Hodgson Douglas and will present design materials at a Dec. 4 briefing.
