Carlsbad council adopts Library Board and Arts Commission work plans, affirms community arts grants

Carlsbad — The City Council unanimously adopted two resolutions on consent to accept the Library Board of Trustees’ and Arts Commission’s 2025–26 work plans and the boards’ reports of accomplishments.
Deputy Library Director Sheila Crosby summarized the Library Board’s recent actions — including approving the annual Public Library Survey for the California State Library and enhanced services such as the permanent story walk at Buena Vista Bar Reservoir Park. Library Board Chair Laurel Moran noted the board’s interest in future benchmarking data to compare Carlsbad with other libraries.
Library & Cultural Arts Director Suzanne Smithson described the Arts Commission’s accomplishments, including ongoing administration of community arts grants and selection of public artists for projects such as a traffic circle installation. Smithson said the council has allocated $117,000 annually for community arts grants over the past four years and that the commission will present proposed changes in funding allocation at an upcoming Arts Commission meeting.
Council members thanked the volunteer chairs and staff for their work; the council moved and approved both resolutions without public speakers.
