Board approves appropriations unanimously and enters closed session to discuss solar siting, prospective business and personnel appointment

Later in the meeting the county attorney moved that the board enter closed session under Va. Code §2.2-3711 for three specific purposes: (1) a potential solar project siting agreement, (2) a discussion with Franklin-Southampton Economic Development Incorporated concerning a prospective business or industry locating or expanding in Southampton County where no previous announcement has been made, and (3) a personnel matter regarding appointment of the community development director at the request of the board chair. The board voted to go into closed session by voice vote.
After returning from closed session, the county attorney read a certification resolution required by the Freedom of Information Act that the closed meeting included only matters allowed by the statute. The board adopted the certification; the clerk called roll and multiple supervisors recorded "Yes" to certify (Supervisor Cornwell, Supervisor White, Supervisor Faceon, Supervisor Gillette and others were recorded responding in the affirmative).
The appropriations were adopted and recorded; no specific terms of the closed-session items were disclosed in open session.
