County: courthouse renovation nearing occupancy; $24.5 million contract and pay applications reported

County administrator (Mr. Thor) briefed the board on capital projects and staffing during the June 25 meeting, saying the courthouse renovation is in final stages and a certificate of occupancy has been issued.
"A certificate of occupancy has been issued for the building. Some of the clerk's items have already been moved back into the building, and the majority of the moving will take place mid, July, week of July 15," the county administrator said.
He reported the construction contract figure as $24,531,673.14 and said the county has processed 31 pay applications and paid $24,213,319.15 to date. For the Newsom CDBG project, staff continue housing rehabs and are moving forward with drainage improvements; easements have been obtained for most property owners and condemnation of one property is underway. The notice of award for the work has been sent to KCH Contracting.
On the county radio project, the administrator said staff held a kickoff meeting with JVC Kenwood and currently expect the project to continue into mid-to-late 2026. He also said the county is recruiting for a community development and planning director and a plans-review/permit technician.
No motion was required for the briefing items; the board acknowledged the updates and asked for continued reporting as projects advance.
