York County public-works update: hundreds of work orders completed, multiple multi-year road and bridge projects under way

A York County public-works official briefed the Board of Supervisors on quarterly operations and capital projects, reporting both routine maintenance activity and several multi-year construction projects.

For the period Aug. 1–Oct. 31 the customer-service center received about 451 concerns; staff completed 377 of those via the customer channel with an 83.6% completion rate. The department created 146 in-house work orders and reported completing 145 of those; overall the presenter said 597 work orders were completed with 75 outstanding, an approximately 87% completion rate.

Project updates and timelines cited included tree trimming and drainage repairs on several local roads, guardrail and bridge work (including a Route 143 bridge repair), and major projects such as the Route 134 bridge-deck replacement (fixed completion listed as Dec. 26, 2026) and the Wythe Creek Road project (construction completion date cited as Aug. 8, 2027). Staff said they were coordinating utility relocations prior to ditching and paving work and planned some bundling of pedestrian-path and turn-lane projects to reduce overall traffic impacts.

Supervisors asked about road closures, detours and how long particular segments would be closed; the presenter said eastbound traffic on some long projects is expected to remain open while work is performed in phases on the opposite side, and that some closures could last months while other work will be staged to limit impacts. The presenter also noted upcoming safety reviews at school approaches and recommended some pedestrian-safety hardware in places where studies supported it.

Next steps: staff will provide further schedule and detour plans in forthcoming project updates and will coordinate public information on closures and expected durations.
