The York County Board of Supervisors approved a set of zoning‑map amendments and companion comprehensive‑plan changes to bring newly acquired parcels into conformity with York County's 2040 plan and adjacent zoning.
Planning staff explained that following a December 2023 boundary‑line adjustment with the city of Poquoson, the county acquired several parcels that were previously split by the jurisdictional boundary. The county code requires newly incorporated land to be temporarily classified as Resource Conservation until a formal rezoning is approved. Staff proposed rezoning 27 parcels (18 owners) to align with adjacent county zoning and the comprehensive plan: the majority were assigned RR (Rural Residential) or R‑20 (medium density) consistent with surrounding parcels.
The planning commission recommended approval and staff said notification had been provided to affected owners and neighboring jurisdictions. Jeannie Carver (planning staff) said the amendments remove split zoning, assign future land‑use designations, and update the plan's tab maps to reflect the newly added land.
No public speakers remained in the room to oppose the proposal. The board adopted the ordinance (O26‑5) and companion resolution (R26‑25) as submitted.
Action taken: ordinance O26‑5 (rezoning) and resolution R26‑25 (comprehensive‑plan updates) adopted to reclassify affected parcels and remove split zoning following the boundary adjustment.
