The Kearney City Council approved the acquisition of a 5-foot utility easement to allow conduit and installation of a final street light on East 64th Street and adopted a corrective rezoning ordinance for property at 119 Central Avenue, the council confirmed at its meeting.
The move on the easement came after a brief presentation from Sarah Son, director of utilities, who said the easement "is just for . . . to run conduit to get one last street light" and that the easement runs to East 64th Street. A council member moved to close Public Hearing 1 and adopt resolution number 20 25 - 1 6 1 to acquire the easement; the motion was seconded and the council voted in favor.
Why it matters: the five-foot easement enables the city to complete street lighting in the subject development, which city staff said will allow one more street light to be installed on East 64th Street.
In other business, the council approved Ordinance number 87 72 A, described on the agenda as a corrective rezoning for property located at 119 Central Avenue from District BP (Business Park) to District C3 (General Commercial). Council moved to suspend the statutory requirement for reading ordinances on three successive days, read the ordinance by number only, and place it on for final passage; the motion carried.
Votes at a glance: the council approved the easement resolution and the consent agenda (items 1–9) and voted to pass the corrective rezoning ordinance and an open-account claim to U and K The Antelope. Roll-call votes were held for each action as recorded in the meeting.
Reports and personnel notes: council members offered condolences for Terry Iraks and thanked public works for installing a new crosswalk sign at 9th Avenue in front of Warner Hall. A departing staff member said he is leaving for a new opportunity and noted that the assistant city manager position has been posted; he encouraged applicants to apply.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was made and approved.
