Council approves $25.17 million in expenditures, multiple board appointments and district appropriations

At its Oct. 23 regular meeting the Huntsville City Council approved a slate of finance items, board appointments and district appropriations.
Chair Watkins moved to approve expenditures totaling $25,168,705.23, which the body approved by voice vote. Council also approved multiple district council improvement fund appropriations: among items disclosed on the record were $15,000 for the Huntsville Ballet and $75,000 for HEELS, Inc., the latter described as a capital expense to cover a vendor billing application failure.
The council voted on a series of board appointments and reappointments, including appointments to the Ice Skating Complex Board of Control, Huntsville Tennis Center Board of Control and other local authorities. Several votes included abstentions noted on the record.
Other actions taken included setting public hearings for nuisance declarations and licensure suspension matters to be heard at the Nov. 6 meeting; council also introduced a set of ordinances to be considered at the next regular meeting. The full packet of finance backup materials was provided to council members in advance, and staff asked members to contact Ms. Smith if they did not receive supporting documentation.
The council made no additional budget appropriations beyond the district improvement fund allocations reported on the record during the meeting.
