Council approves $1.48 million contract to finish Tennessee River Greenway Phase 3

Shane Davis, director of Urban Economic Development, told the council that awarding the low-bid contract to Grayson Carter Contracting would authorize construction of roughly 1.5 miles of greenway for a total contract amount of $1,478,933.88. Davis said that completing this final link will allow a continuous roughly 15-mile loop connecting west and east sides of South Memorial Parkway and improve access to multiple trailheads and destinations.
The council member who held the item noted broad public interest in completing the missing link and emphasized its importance to the biking community. City staff characterized the contract as the final construction phase for the trail segment and said phase 2 and phase 3 close a longstanding gap in the greenway.
The motion to authorize the contract passed by voice vote.
