Council adopts resolution setting tap fees for South Street sewer connection district

The Hastings City Council voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 2026-10, which lists tap fees for properties in Sewer Connection District 2024-2 (South Street).
Lee, a city staff member, told the council the resolution documents the tap fees but "the tap fees will not be assessed to each property until they want to tap onto our sewer system." Lee added that assessments will be filed at the registrar of deeds so they will appear on property records when parcels are searched.
The council opened a public hearing on levying assessments for the district; no members of the public spoke and the mayor closed the hearing before the resolution vote. The motion to adopt the resolution passed 6–0.
Council discussion clarified that most properties in the district are undeveloped and the district was formed after a property requested a sewer extension; fees will apply if and when property owners develop and elect to connect.
