Resident urges Rice County to drop County Road 20 bike-path plan, citing property and maintenance concerns

Emily Dieter, a Rice County homeowner, used her allotted public comment time to oppose a planned County Road 20 project that would add curb, gutter and a bike path, telling commissioners the change would alter private property and increase taxpayer costs.
"We purposely chose to live out of town... We don't want curb and gutter," Dieter said, adding that the proposed path would require year-round maintenance and represent an ongoing expense. She said neighbors did not support the project, asked the board to consider the long-term consequences for yards, driveways and trees, and suggested existing trails nearby meet recreational needs for cyclists.
Her remarks were delivered during the open forum portion of the meeting; commissioners did not take a vote or direct staff to change the project during the session. The open forum was adjourned for a brief break before the regular meeting continued.
