The addendum covers only fiscal year 2026 and serves as the next administrative step to begin recruiting and hiring. "This addendum just serves as that the next step so that we can move forward with hiring," Dirks said, explaining that once the board approves it the document will go to the dean of extension for signature and then return to the county to start the posting and recruitment process.
The extension director framed the change as part of the county’s existing memorandum of agreement with the University of Minnesota Extension, which governs staffing and program delivery. Dirks said the staffing request was approved during the county’s budget cycle and the addendum simply formalizes that approval for the current fiscal year; she noted a similar staffing request will be submitted again during the FY2027 budget process.
No vote or motion was recorded during the work session; Dirks made the presentation and offered to answer questions in advance of the March 10 board meeting when the addendum will appear on the formal agenda. The board did not take action during the work session; the addendum will proceed through the extension dean’s office and then return for the county’s formal approval and any subsequent hiring steps.
