Florida Cultural Alliance outlines Arts & Agriculture pilot for Hardee County

Barbara St. Clair, representing the Florida Cultural Alliance, presented an Arts and Agriculture pilot program to the Hardee County commission on Dec. 4, saying the initiative seeks to bring "high-quality arts experiences" to rural counties by partnering with local agricultural extension offices and two local arts agencies.
St. Clair said the program is funded by a state grant to launch the project and provides self-contained arts kits (in English and Spanish), artist-led workshops, music and dance programs, and a planned traveling Florida cowboy exhibit. Participating extension offices can distribute kits directly, host events, or integrate the kits into existing outreach; the program targets young people (toddlers through age 18), families, seniors and people with special needs.
St. Clair said the pilot began in November and will continue through the current fiscal year, with plans to report back to the county after the first year. Commissioners and staff asked logistical questions about distribution, age ranges and potential local partners (Heartland Cultural Alliance and Polk Arts Alliance were named as collaborators). No county action was requested; commissioners expressed support and recommended coordination with the library system and local extension staff.
The presentation closed with an offer to share contact information and to report results after the pilot's first year.
