Commissioner Flores was elected chair of the Hardee County Board of County Commissioners for 2025–26 following nominations and a voice vote during the board's Dec. 4 regular meeting. The board also announced its vice chair for the coming year and approved a resolution updating authorized bank signers.
The outgoing chair opened the floor for nominations for chair and for vice chair. The board closed nominations and announced Commissioner Flores as chair. Commissioners then moved to authorize a resolution (2026-04) that designates the newly elected chair and vice chair as county bank signers; the motion to adopt the resolution passed unanimously.
The newly seated chair outlined appointments and liaisons to several regional bodies and local boards, including seats on regional transportation planning organizations, the Heartland Cultural Alliance and value adjustment boards, as well as assignments for the housing authority liaison, CareerSource Heartland alternate, community recreation complex, and other standing committees. Commissioners discussed continuity, opportunities for rotation, and the need to ensure representation on bodies that affect county projects and grants. A motion to approve the commission's reorganization of memberships was moved, seconded and carried without objection.
Separately, the board approved the agenda amendment to add an informational presentation from the Central Florida Regional Planning Council and then approved a set of meeting minutes and the consent agenda by unanimous votes.
The board did not receive public comment on non-agenda items during the open comment period. The meeting recessed for a short break later in the morning.
