Rice County approves renewals for adult-services contracts, accepts $500 Friendship House donation

Rice County commissioners approved a slate of adult'services contract renewals effective Jan. 1 during their Nov. 25 meeting and accepted a $500 donation to Friendship House from the family of a former member.
Megan Thomas, who presented the items, asked the board to renew several contracts with no rate changes: Alternative Resolutions Inc. (guardianship/conservatorship) at existing rates (noting the county currently has about 104 people served under that contract); Scott County Guardianship (the county serves five individuals under a $350 per-client-per-month rate); Lutheran Social Services (serving about three clients at $2.80 per client per month); Laura Baker Services for SILS (one individual); Cedar Valley Services for extended employment (a small enclave program with client counts declining as some clients move to waiver-funded employment).
Thomas said past attorney-fee payments had been substantial and that eliminating those payments had reduced county costs dramatically: "At one point that was over $400,000 that the county was paying," she said in describing changes made over the past years. Commissioners approved each contract renewal by voice vote.
Thomas also presented a $500 donation from a decedent's family to Friendship House to fund a musical outing for clubhouse members; the board approved acceptance of the gift.
All contract renewals and the donation were approved as presented; no amendments or funding changes were made at the meeting.
