The City of Parkland City Commission voted unanimously Oct. 1 to adopt three resolutions that the city said will bolster cybersecurity, refresh its vehicle fleet and replace the city hall roof.
The commission approved Resolution 2024-059 to increase Microsoft cloud-service licensing so the city complies with the National Institute of Standards and Technology cybersecurity requirements. Commissioner Meyerson moved to approve and Commissioner Bridal seconded the motion; the measure passed on a unanimous roll call.
Also approved was Resolution 2024-076 to piggyback the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office vehicle contract for automotive pursuit vehicles, light trucks, SUVs and medium-duty equipment for a total not to exceed $331,300, including a $16,107 allowance for city-authorized expenditures. Commissioner Meyerson moved the measure and Commissioner Breyer seconded; the vote was unanimous.
The commission also adopted Resolution 2024-077 to replace the city hall roof using a piggyback of a Racine County contract with Garland/DBS. City staff presented the project as a planned replacement: Christine Garcia, senior director of operational services and projects, said city hall has exceeded its expected life span and recommended changing to a metal roof. "We are expecting it to last 40 years, but it does come with [a] 35-year warranty," Garcia said, and added that the procurement structure effectively provides a 37-year warranty in practice. Commissioner Meyerson moved the resolution; Vice Mayor Israel seconded it, and the commission approved it unanimously.
Votes at a glance • Resolution 2024-059 (Microsoft cybersecurity licensing) — mover: Commissioner Meyerson; second: Commissioner Bridal; outcome: approved unanimously (Bridal: yes; Cutler: yes; Meyerson: yes; Vice Mayor Israel: yes; Mayor Walker: yes). • Resolution 2024-076 (purchase of city vehicles — piggyback Bradford County contract) — mover: Commissioner Meyerson; second: Commissioner Breyer; outcome: approved unanimously (same yes votes). • Resolution 2024-077 (city hall roof replacement — piggyback Garland/DBS contract) — mover: Commissioner Meyerson; second: Vice Mayor Israel; outcome: approved unanimously (same yes votes).
Clarifying note: the agenda text for the roof replacement lists a not-to-exceed figure of $1,430,000 for the contract; during the presentation Garcia referenced a project estimate of approximately $1,500,000 while describing square footage and replacement approach. The commission record contains both figures; the commission adopted the resolution as presented on the agenda.
Next steps: staff will execute the authorized contracts and return to the commission or otherwise implement under the terms described in the adopted resolutions.
