Parkland staff report progress on Wedge Preserve, Pine Trails upgrades and summer projects

An unnamed Parks and Recreation staff member briefed the advisory board on a suite of park improvement projects, saying Wedge Preserve Park is moving through inspections and site work while several other park upgrades are scheduled for spring and summer.
“The electrical, mechanical and plumbing rough inspections have been completed for our restroom building,” the staff member said while describing Wedge Preserve progress and a newly installed maintenance building metal paneling. He added that boardwalk installation has begun, parking is being formed, and new playground equipment is installed pending final CPSI certification.
Staff reported a temporary overflow parking area opened to compensate for reduced curbside availability on Hillsborough while that street project proceeds. The staffer said historical parking data indicate the expanded lot (about 65 spots) will meet regular demand except on peak event days.
Tamarack Park playground permits are finalized and equipment was ordered with construction expected to begin in March and reopen before summer. Pine Trails playground repairs have been completed without extended closures, and concession restroom improvements are being planned for summer. The commission previously approved an upgrade to sports lighting at Pine Trails; staff said a contract with Musco is being finalized and vendor lead time is about three months, which staff will coordinate around basketball season.
Other planned work includes Liberty Park splash pad design and quote gathering (targeted for a May review), pavilion roof replacements in spring, and a lake‑excavation project at Tamar Park planned for March pending finalized quotes. The advisory board asked whether the Wedge Preserve pond depths and irrigation plans would avoid problems seen in previous projects; staff said engineers reviewed plans and will require inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications.
No formal motions or votes were taken; staff said they will return with updated construction schedules and contractor recommendations at future meetings.
