County staff say Fire Station 1 HVAC lacked heat element; temporary heaters deployed

Staff reported that a heating issue at Fire Station 1 was traced to an HVAC installation that apparently lacked heating elements despite a purchase order indicating otherwise. Facilities staff and local vendors provided portable heaters to maintain warmth while the county’s contractor diagnoses and orders replacement parts.
According to staff, technicians discovered the control harness will not run the heating element; a replacement harness has been ordered and vendor Miller’s is working on repairs. Fire department personnel provided immediate temporary heat using portable heaters until the unit is repaired. Commissioners said building-code requirements require heating in county facilities and asked staff to follow up.
Staff said the unit was installed around 2020–21 and that invoice language did not reference installed heating elements even though procurement paperwork suggested otherwise. Staff will pursue corrective repairs and update the board on the timeline and any procurement or warranty implications.
