Family asks Holmes County to name stretch of County Road 179 for L.D. Crews; commissioners approve placement

"I've given you this background history of him and his heirs to establish a record of service," Lettins told commissioners.
Commissioners discussed whether the family or the county should pay for sign fabrication and whether the county should keep a consistent sign style for memorials. One commissioner suggested handling placement while allowing the family to provide the sign to avoid using county funds for fabrication; another urged a case‑by‑case approach to memorial requests. A motion to approve the placement request was made and seconded; commissioners advanced the motion by voice vote.
The board asked staff to coordinate the sign's placement and to return with any specifications or costs if the county were to produce the sign. Lettins thanked the commission and said she had worked on the background information for several months.
