At the council meeting Mayor Zamora reported that city officials attended an outreach event as part of a newly described 'Big 4' partnership that includes the cities of Commerce, Vernon and Industry alongside Santa Fe Springs. She said the effort is intended to attract like-minded industrial and manufacturing businesses and noted roughly 30 developers attended a session exploring investment opportunities in the four cities.
Zamora described the outreach as an opportunity to streamline permitting and to emphasize the city’s point-of-sale tax as part of its strategy to fund local services and incentives. She said staff fielded developer questions and that the city is seeking ways to make the process easier for prospective investors.
During her conference report she also referenced topics discussed at the Independent Cities Association conference, including cybersecurity, smart growth, and concerns about coastal access and private control of beaches. She thanked volunteers and community partners for recent Little League opening-day events and welcomed the new Chamber of Commerce CEO, Leah Skinner, who was formally introduced at the meeting.
The mayor closed by noting several memorials and adjourning the meeting.
