McKinney staff say transportation fund is on track; venue project identified as likely near-term funding recipient

McKINNEY, Texas — City staff told the council on Dec. 16 that the Transportation Infrastructure Initiative is on track to meet projections and that eligible CIP projects have been identified for economic‑development funding.
Tracy Lund, assistant director of engineering, said the initiative—adopted in 2022—had projected roughly $16 million between FY23 and FY27. Lund reported the program’s total to date is about $7.2 million, including roughly $3.4 million in FY25 from MEDC and MCDC contributions. Staff presented an updated list of eligible projects and a map showing project locations.
Lund said the venue project is the most likely candidate to receive current-year funds but emphasized the list only identifies eligibility and that final commitments remain to be determined. Councilors asked clarifying questions about funding responsibilities and confirmed that if EDC/MCDC funds were not available, money would need to be reprioritized within the CIP.
No funding decisions were made during the work session; staff will continue to refine project costs and funding recommendations.
