The Waukesha City Board of Public Works approved a small contract change order Dec. 4 for the city’s drop‑off center used‑collection improvements.
Engineering staff said the steel roof structure required construction of a thickened concrete edge that had not been included in the original bid. That work required additional concrete and stone; staff said some items originally budgeted were not necessary and offsets reduced the net cost. Staff presented the total net change order as $2,012.30. “The additional cost for the thickened edge concrete is $3,500 and that requires some extra stone as well... Ultimately, there were some items that were not necessary. We can reduce the cost of the project by approximately $1,500,” a staff member said.
Board members noted the improvement will place waste and oil containment below grade and under cover, reducing vehicle conflicts and preventing water infiltration into the tank. The board moved, seconded and approved the change order.
Staff said the structure will be covered to prevent water from infiltrating into the tank and that frequent users of the drop‑off site expressed support for the improvement.
