The Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Board unanimously approved the department's proposed 2026 winter/spring fees and charges schedule after staff presentations that highlighted strong enrollment and limited indoor capacity.
Recreation Supervisor Mark Thompson told the board the upcoming season includes 674 classes: 286 youth, 120 before- and after-school, 99 adult, 71 older-adult and 98 family offerings. "We're gonna have a total of 674 classes," Thompson said, noting strong demand in fitness and youth sports programs.
Staff flagged specific proposed increases to cover rising costs: Tree Climb would move from $52 to $55 (roughly a 6% increase) to cover payroll expenses; the Little Dragons Tae Kwon Do program would increase from $50 to $55 (about 10%); Summer Explorers was proposed for a 1% increase. Staff also noted that certain free classes are funded through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars and that some programs are nearing building capacity.
Board members pressed staff on plans for more indoor space. Department leadership said exploring partnerships and small-to-medium projects (including the Mineola Park Pavilion kickoff) are priorities; building a full new recreation center was "probably not likely at this juncture," staff said, while noting other alternatives are being explored.
The board moved and unanimously approved the fees and charges schedule; staff said they will proceed with registration and programming plans.
