The Waukesha Board of Public Works on Jan. 8 approved Change Order No. 1 with Surefire for work on the Municipal Garage HVAC replacement at Century Drive, authorizing the installation of two 4-by-4 windows at a stated contractor price of $4,598.
Staff explained that removal of failed air-handling units opened wall areas in the truck shop where fleet maintenance is performed. Addressing the openings with window installations would improve lighting and make it easier to work on trucks. "The contractor gave us a price to install those 2 4 by 4 windows, a total of $4,598 and that includes a deduction for what it would have cost to put the block in place there," a staff member said.
A motion to approve the change order was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote. Staff invited board members to inspect the area during a future site visit.
The action amends the contractor scope to include the specified window installations; staff did not indicate additional scope beyond the change order and said the work will proceed under the existing project framework.
