Director Alex said the city experienced an intense snow event with roughly 10–11 inches of accumulation, about 1,000 staff plowing hours and about 1,300 tons of salt distributed to keep roads passable. Alex said the operation went well under difficult conditions but cautioned that some slippery spots remain; he warned that frozen leaves under snow mean the remainder of the fall leaf pickup will likely have to wait for a multi-week warm stretch to avoid terrace damage.
The Board of Public Works recommended awarding the phosphorus-removal chemical bid to Kamira Water Solutions (ferric chloride at $2,891 per ton delivered; ferric sulfate alternate at $2,999/ton) and the polymer contract to SNF Polydyne (Clariflok at $1.83 per pound delivered); both recommendations reflect slight cost reductions from the current year. Council approved the recommended bids.
Next steps: Public Works will monitor conditions for a spring leaf pickup and proceed with awarded chemical contracts.
