Neighbors and a council member asked the committee to consider 25-mph signage and nonstandard 'Children at Play' reminders on Darlene Drive after complaints about drag racing and playground proximity.
A resident described drag races staged on the dead-end portion and said he had called police multiple times but response arrived after incidents ended; staff confirmed one complaint logged in 2023. Public Works staff said the 'Children at Play' sign is nonstandard (not covered by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and that marked crosswalks would not be recommended at uncontrolled intersections. Committee members suggested alternatives including a hidden-driveway sign, flashing radar feedback signs and an updated speed study in spring. No motion collected a second and the item died for lack of motion.
Members encouraged complainants to gather license-plate information and times to aid police enforcement if drag racing continues.
