The Waukesha Cemetery Commission on Monday approved a request by the Friends of Prairie Home Cemetery to host the third annual Tombstone Trot run/walk fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, at SilverCircle and also accepted minutes from its Dec. 8, 2025 meeting.
The request for the Oct. 18 event drew no opposition. Karen, the cemetery director, told commissioners the first two Tombstone Trots “went very well” and that the group raised "over 13,000" at prior events. Ed Raeser moved to allow the Friends to host the 2026 event; Amanda Roddy seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The commission also considered its December minutes. Mike Christine moved to approve the Dec. 8, 2025 minutes; Rico Camacho was recorded as the second. Amanda Roddy abstained from that vote; the chair declared the minutes approved otherwise unanimously.
Votes at a glance: - Approval of minutes (Dec. 8, 2025): motion moved by Mike Christine, second by Rico Camacho; result: approved, Amanda Roddy abstained. - Friends of Prairie Home Cemetery Tombstone Trot (Oct. 18, 2026): motion moved by Ed Raeser, seconded by Amanda Roddy; result: approved unanimously.
Commissioners noted the fundraising value of the Tombstone Trot and other Friends events, which support projects such as the veterans tribute garden. The Friends also plan a Taco John's fundraiser on June 10 and previously raised several hundred dollars at Culver's and other events. The commission set its next meeting for Monday, April 13 and adjourned at the meeting's close.
