The City of Waukesha Water Utility Commission approved a contract to replace approximately 1,400 feet of 8‑inch water main on Bidwell and Prospect, the commission heard Feb. 19.
Staff said six bids were opened January 23 and the low bid for the utility work came from Wandel (Wandell) Contractors at $403,671.47. The motion before the commission covered the utility’s share of the public works contract plus a 1% city administration fee, bringing the total charged to the utility to $407,708.18. The commission moved, seconded and approved the contract by voice vote.
"Low bidder was Wandel Contractors for the water main total of $403,671.47," Matt said while presenting the project and noted the Board of Public Works and common council had already approved the overall public works contract as part of the 2026 budget.
Staff said this project finishes remaining segments of earlier relays on Northfield and Prospect and ties into existing mains near Delafield and Barstow. The work is part of the public works contract for street and utility improvements; the utility’s portion was brought forward for the commission to authorize payment and contract acceptance.
Commissioners asked whether the utility work would be subcontracted; staff confirmed Wandel will be prime and that water work will be subcontracted as part of the contract’s construction approach. No recorded roll-call tally was entered in the discussion; the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
The commission’s approval authorizes inclusion of the utility’s portion in the City of Waukesha Public Works contract with Wandel (Wandell) Contractors for the Bidwell and Prospect utility and street improvements. The project was included in the 2026 capital budget and staff emphasized the low bid is well under the earlier estimate.
The meeting then moved to subsequent agenda items; construction scheduling and coordination with other utilities will be handled through public works and the contractor.
