Board awards $1.65 million contract for Bidwell and Prospect utility and street work

The Waukesha Board of Public Works voted Feb. 5 to award the Bidwell Avenue and Prospect Avenue utility and street improvement contract to Wandell Contractors for their low bid of $1,646,591.35.
City staff told the board the project drew six bids ranging roughly from about $1.6 million to $2 million and recommended Wandell as the low, responsive bidder. A city staff member said, “We received 6 bids, from contractors…we recommend moving forward with Wandell Contractors for their low price of $1,646,000 for $1,646,591.35.”
Board members discussed schedule and traffic access for nearby property owners. A staff member said construction would start “when weather allows, but early mid March, probably more mid March” and said contract completion is expected in July. Staff also said they are coordinating a temporary access point off Lamar so Moor Downs Golf Course has full access during work on Prospect Avenue.
The board moved and voted to approve the award; recorded ayes during the roll call included Cassin, Kevin Riley, Piper, O'Donnell and Payne and the motion carried.
The project is scheduled to proceed this spring, with staff continuing to coordinate temporary access arrangements and final contract administration.
