Spear Crane urges no-parking zone on Wilmot Drive to move 150–200-foot crane components
Summary
Chris Healy of Spear Crane Corp. asked city staff to approve no parking along a stretch of Wilmot Drive to allow safe movement of 150-foot products and future 200-foot pieces from a new building at 400 Wilmot; staff proposed extending the restriction to avoid repeat requests and noted sign costs of about $200.

Chris Healy, of Spear Crane Corp., told the meeting he is seeking city approval to prohibit parking along a portion of Wilmot Drive to allow his company to move oversized overhead-crane components safely.
Healy, who gave his address as 208 Wilmot Drive, said his company currently produces products that are “150 feet long” and that a newly approved building at 400 Wilmot will allow pieces “200 feet long.” He said daily parked cars on the public parking areas opposite his facility make it “quite difficult to get product in and out of there safely and efficiently.”
The director said staff originally understood the request was targeted to a small “blue area” serving the horseshoe building north of Wilmot Drive but, because of future development and Healy’s description of 200-foot loads, staff proposed extending the no-parking restriction from the western property line of 401 Wilmot to 25 feet east of the driveway for 205 Wilmot Drive so the issue would not have to come back later for another request.
Healy also told the meeting that traffic generated by the nearby convenience store has increased activity on the road. The director said the only immediate cost tied to the request would be the installation of signage on Wilmot Drive, which staff estimated at roughly $200, and that the building-and-grounds budget had $11,884.30 remaining for 2026 with $5,242.48 spent to date.
No formal vote or action was recorded in the transcript; staff said the proposal could be amended to cover the larger area so it would not return to the docket. The meeting proceeded to the next agenda items.
