Planning Commission approves two small rezonings, forwarding recommendations to council

Planner Kira Velois presented Z202608 to rezone about 0.074 acres at 1366 Portland Avenue from single-family residential to general commercial. Staff notified a 200-foot buffer and reported three responses in favor; Kira said the request ‘‘is consistent with the comprehensive plan, the surrounding uses and zoning, generally accepted planning principles, and criteria for approval in the LDC.’’ The applicant’s agent, Tal Fillingham, explained the rezoning would allow an end cap retail building and described plans to reroute an alley to tie back into Portland; the rezoning request covered only zoning, not abandonment or alley-right-of-way approvals. Commissioners moved and approved the rezoning.
Planner Adam Holland presented Z202609 to rezone about 6.82 acres at 650 North 18th Street to general commercial, noting one response in favor. BJ Pritchard of EHT Engineering, agent for the applicant, said the rezoning would consolidate property and facilitate future medical facilities. Staff recommended approval for the rezoning based on consistency with the comprehensive plan and zoning context; commissioners approved the recommendation by unanimous vote.
Both actions are recommendations to the City Council, which will take final action.
