The City Council approved an updated annual partnership agreement with the La Verne Chamber of Commerce, with director-level staff explaining changes to the funding structure and the chamber’s near‑term priorities.
Eric Sheer and incoming chamber board chair Josh Goldman described last fiscal year’s staffing challenges at the chamber and outlined a programmatic approach in the revised agreement: $30,000 of the subsidy will be tied to specific programs with a clause allowing the city to withhold funds if those programs are not delivered; an additional $10,000 would be discretionary. Given city budget constraints staff proposed a $40,000 subsidy with an additional $2,000 to help subsidize new business memberships, for a $42,000 total as reflected in the proposed budget.
Council praised the chamber's renewed leadership and encouraged closer collaboration with the university and the downtown business improvement district to boost business engagement and retention. The council unanimously approved the agreement.
