The Waukesha Plan Commission unanimously approved final site and architectural plans for a roughly 14,000‑square‑foot addition to the Montessori School at 2600 Summit Avenue, including a new gymnasium, expanded parking and a drive‑through drop‑off aimed at easing traffic at peak school times.
Staff planner Doug told commissioners the project completes an addition originally approved in 2018 and recommended that the developer include a pedestrian sidewalk on the north driveway connecting to University Avenue rather than leaving that connection for an unspecified future date. “Staff strongly recommends a pedestrian walk along the North driveway connecting the school to the sidewalk on University Avenue be included at this time,” Doug said.
Commissioners asked about materials and visibility from adjacent single‑family homes; consultants said the addition will use the same materials and color as a prior addition to provide a cohesive presentation. Commissioners also discussed landscaping, a berm and playground location to reduce neighborhood impacts.
A motion to approve the final site plan and architectural review subject to all staff comments — including the north sidewalk and required engineering concurrence before issuance of building permits — was moved, seconded and passed unanimously.
The approval allows the school to proceed to permit issuance once outstanding department comments are addressed and engineering concurrence is secured.
